Founded
in 1844 the firm is justifiably proud of its long heritage and wealth
of experience. The history of Johnson Poole & Bloomer is intimately
linked with with that of the British coal mining industry, and the development
of applied geology and environmental science as professional disciplines.
Our
story is one of early pioneers with enthusiasm and imagination, of triumphs
and the occasional disaster, of success and innovation.
The
firm was created 160 years ago when Henry Johnson of Dudley set himself
up in business on his 21st birthday, 24th January 1844. The very first
entry in his diary records that he had just finished five long years of
apprenticeship as a land and mine surveyor, 'The first year served
for nothing and the remaining four at 10 shillings per week payable to
my father'! Within days he was hard at work for numerous clients,
and from then on he never looked back, taking on assistants to cope with
an increasing workload.
Through
successive generations of partners, directors and skilled staff the firm has sought
to maintain Henry Johnson's high reputation and professional values.
