Cards

  • æas - ace
  • fæas cards: - court cards
  • Roy, Madder, Jack - King, Queen, Jack
  • pop - spot on cards
  • deeal - to deal cards
  • sæ - turn to choose. 
      'Its my sæ'
  • deck - a hand at cards.   To make a deck in three card lant is to discard
    (Lant, also called loo or lanterloo, was the most popular gambling card game in the early 19th century)
  • Harry - the extra hand dealt in three card lant
  • wiffy - a flush of trumps in three card lant; a hand all trumps.
    "As wiffy" = "all my cards are trumps."
  • swîpe o - to win all the stakes
  • lant - to loose all the tricks at three card lant; the player who has lost all the tricks is lantit
  • ass lugt - partners at whist holding all four honours but losing the odd trick
  • cannins - at the score of 8 in long whist, from "Can ta yan?"  Can you one?
